Select the correct identity in the identity manager, export it, and import the file on your new computer. Then select that identity for your server connection. Keep the old installation and backup until you have checked the result. The official backup guide describes this export-and-import route.
1. Why your old nickname does not restore your rank
Your nickname is a display name. Your identity is how TeamSpeak 3 recognizes you. Groups and permissions are stored on the server and associated with that identity. Joining with another identity and typing your old nickname does not restore access. The official authentication explanation describes the distinction between identity keys and server-side records.
Moving an identity is therefore different from copying a server address or taking a screenshot of your rank. A screenshot may help explain a support request, but it is not a backup.
2. Back up the correct identity before reinstalling
- Open TeamSpeak 3 on your old computer. If you have several identities, first identify the one used for the relevant server.
- Open Identities. Common Windows versions place this under Tools → Identities; some older official instructions call the menu Settings.
- Select the identity and choose Export. Depending on the interface, this may be available in the identity’s right-click menu.
- Give the file a recognizable name and save it privately. Keep an independent copy on storage you control, not only in the Windows installation you plan to erase.
The Tools menu is shown in a TeamSpeak staff reply about identity management; the official computer-transfer guide describes Export. Button placement can differ between versions.
An identity export contains private identity information. Do not upload it to a public channel, shared folder, chat, or support ticket. TeamSpeak says its staff will not ask for your private key. Read the official private-key warning.
3. Import and select it on your new computer
- Install the official client. Our Windows installation guide covers setup.
- Move your backup to the new computer using a private transfer method.
- Open Identities, choose Import, and select your exported file, normally an .ini file.
- Select the imported identity for your connection or bookmark, not a newly created identity with a similar name. Open the advanced bookmark options if the full settings are hidden.
- Connect to the same server and check your groups and the access you need. Complete this check before erasing the old computer.
If the server still retains that identity’s permissions, using the correct identity lets you receive those recorded permissions. Importing does not create new privileges or reverse an administrator’s decision to change or remove a group.
4. If the rank is still missing after import
- Check the selected identity: importing a file does not guarantee your bookmark uses it.
- Check the server: make sure it is the same server, not another with a similar name.
- Separate the symptoms: a missing rank, microphone silence, and an error joining one room need different checks. For audio, use our voice-settings guide.
- Share only what support needs: give AmoHa support the server name, approximate time, error text, and missing group name. Do not send the identity file, account password, or recovery code.
This checklist helps narrow down the cause; it cannot guarantee restoration of a group removed on the server. For AmoHa’s own ranks and badges, see the ranks and badges page.
5. If you previously used myTeamSpeak
An empty list does not always mean permanent loss. If you previously synchronized your identities, check that you are signed in to the same myTeamSpeak account and that Synchronization is enabled. Some versions use Tools → Options → myTeamSpeak. The official missing-synchronized-items guide explains how signing out or turning synchronization off can make cloud items unavailable in the interface.
If you never synchronized an identity, creating a new account does not create a backup of the past. Avoid deleting identities while you are still checking what happened.
Before you erase the old device
- I have kept the export in safe, independent storage.
- I have selected the imported identity for the correct bookmark.
- I have checked the connection and required access on the new device.
- I have not shared my backup, even for support.
Common questions
Is an identity the same as a myTeamSpeak account?
No. An identity identifies your server connection. A myTeamSpeak account can synchronize items such as identities and bookmarks.
What if I have no backup or synchronized copy?
Check your old computer and personal backups. If the private key is truly lost, your old nickname cannot reconstruct it. A server administrator may grant appropriate access to a new identity after verification, subject to that server’s rules.
Does an identity export back up every setting and channel?
No. Do not treat it as a full client or server backup. Check bookmarks, audio settings, and server channel data separately.
